# Google API Settings

MAPPY integrates Google Maps to display maps in your store locator. To enable this, Google requires an "API key" linked to your website. Follow the steps below to create and connect your API key to MAPPY, allowing your store locator map to function seamlessly.

The app takes your key in **Settings → Appearance**, in two fields: a **Storefront Key**, used by the map in your visitors' browsers, and an optional **App Server Key**, used when our servers call Google on your behalf. You only need the second one if you restrict the first to your own domain.

### **Important Note on Google Maps Billing**

Google requires billing details on your Google Cloud project before an API key will work, even if you never go beyond what Google gives you for free.

Google Maps Platform includes a monthly allowance of free calls for each API, and charges per call beyond it. The older **$200 monthly credit** has been retired in favour of this per-API allowance, so any cost estimate you may have read that is based on that credit no longer applies.
